In recent years, we have witnessed Greek veteran Terry Da Libra truly come into his own, thanks to countless hours spent refining his craft, as well as the continued support of Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, and a variety of other industry leaders. His latest EP, a two-track affair, showcases his inspired new sound, which blends elements of modern trance with exceedingly emotive progressive, for which he is most known.
The title cut, "Zephyrus," is a jet-propelled stormer from start to finish. An electro-meets-trance bassline is soon met by a variety of melodic and atmospheric flourishes, including a suspenseful vocal stab sequence. In the main break, Terry delivers an unforgettable string arrangement, as well as an equally gorgeous new lead theme, constructed entirely through the use of vocal chops. The crescendoing arrangement reaches its zenith, upon the arrival of a thunderous and exhilarating drop. It's no wonder that Shingo Nakamura selected this thrilling composition to serve as the climax of his recent mix on our "Only Silk 04" compilation.
The equally uplifting "The Butterfly Stroke" rounds out the EP. Once again, the composition bursts out of the gate on a driving, uptempo note. A hypnotic and intoxicating aura is soon created by a variety of repeating melodic motifs, lush pads, and vocal echoes. When we arrive at the main break, a sense of awe overtakes the listener, as an almost overwhelmingly poignant lead theme reveals itself, featuring a mellifluous combination of piano, pads, and a plethora of other harmonious elements. The drop to follow is equally layered and rapturous.
